A powerful earthquake has struck Colombia and other countries in Latin America, shaking buildings in the capital Bogotá and in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
The earthquake measured 6.6 in magnitude, according to the Colombian Geological Survey, and 7.4, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It struck at a depth of around 100 kilometers.
The epicenter was located near San José del Palmar in Colombia’s western Chocó department.
Videos capturing the moment the earthquake struck have circulated on social media, showing buildings and facilities shaking in several areas as residents rushed into the streets.
